Good morning from DoubleHP Princess

Good morning from DoubleHP Princess. She has a vet appt. on Friday (if the weather holds) to see if she is a candidate for a 2nd surgery for navicular-like condition.
She does fine as long as there is soft snow cover or on soft ground but she is pretty sore on one of her fronts if the ground is hard. Right now she has a nice boot with gel pad inserts on that foot and it helps her a lot. So we'll see what the Doc says on Friday. (she doesn't have the boot on here but this photo is from just a few weeks ago so she does have some really good days where she feels great and can run around and play, but she also has some days where she is sore. Sounds like me!)

Laser Therapy for our Sr. K9 Security Team Member, Scarlet

Scarlet is about 14, getting right up there for a big Lab. So she is getting laser therapy for her arthritis and various other sore bone & joint areas. And she gets to wear these goggles during her treatments!
She always comes back from therapy with a smile and little prance.
Her Veterinarian is Dr. Rola at East Acres Clinic in Sioux Falls.

Update on HotShot's 2014 sponsors. Thanks new sponsor Claudia!

Thanks Claudia for becoming HotShot's most recent sponsor for 2014! Claudia's name will be added, along with HotShot's other 2014 sponsors, to a sign that will hang on his stall door! I believe we have $1,430 donated for the big guy now, still quite a ways to go before the end of January (then we feature a different rescued horse). Guess we need about $127 donated each day now for the rest of the month. Who's next! You can use the donate button here on this web/blog. (top right of page). Or paypal to doublehphorses@aol.com. Or send a check to DoubleHP Horses, 25337 470 Ave, Crooks SD 57020.

Good morning from DoubleHP Roman

Good morning from DoubleHP Roman, or Romeo as we affectionately call him.
Why would anyone take a beautiful boy like this to a "loose/slaughter" horse sale. Well, that's where he was headed. But we acquired him 3 days before the sale. "Irresponsibly bred" horses often get the label of "unwanted." But that's not right. It's the owner's fault, not the horse's. So we don't call them "unwanted." Ever. We call them "nice, beautiful horses that used to belong to irresponsible humans."

Thank you to HotShot's two most recent 2014 sponsors

Thank you to D&D Market / Cohens and to Faythe W. for helping to sponsor our Golden Boy, HotShot in 2014. HotShot is 25 this year; this is his Golden Birthday Boy Year! His actual birth date is May 10, but racing Thoroughbreds turn a year older each January. HotShot is a rescued OTTB and really looks great for a Senior TB. He looks great period!

We now need just under $1,400 to get his basic care fully sponsored this year. that's his hay, stall bedding, vax, hoof care, deworming, all the basics. He eats 8 pounds of Purina Senior Feed a day, in addition to all of his hay. He's one of our more expensive sanctuary horses, but they are all worth every penny.

To help sponsor HotShot in his 25th birthday year, you may send checks to DoubleHP Horses, 25337 470 Ave, Crooks SD 57020. Paypal to doublehphorses@aol.com  or use the donate button found right here on this page, upper right. We are 501c3 and we are GFAS verified.
HotShot's sponsors will get their names on his stall door for the whole year!

Good Morning from Shadow and Bella

Good Morning from Shadow and Bella. A calm morning though very cold, barely above zero. This photo is from a couple of days ago. Yesteray was the windiest day here since June 2011, I heard a weather guy say. Today is calm and will be in the 30s before long. Tomorrow is supposed to be really really really windy. So glad we have barns. We are even able to continue our horsemanship sessions here during the winter, with our indoor arena (it's not heated though). Most of our humans pooped out when it got a little cold, but a couple of us are hanging in there. And the horses are more than willing. We have way more horses than humans, so please consider joining us when it warms up a bit. you can email us for info. at doublehphorses@alliancecom.net

Good Windy morning to you

Good Morning from Shadow, Spirit, Bella, Prince and Lily.
Holy Wind Batman! Had a fun (not) walk into the north wind this morning to open the pasture gate for the herd to go get their breakfast. Fortunately, both of our feeding areas are up against a North tree grove. It was as calm as a lullaby once I got out there and in between the tree groves. And that's where the herd is now. Probably singing lullabies. Nah, more like rock n roll.

Good Morning from DoubleHP Spirit

Caught Spirit showing off yesterday. He is one of our rescued horses who lives here at our sanctuary in South Dakota. We opened up a bigger area for them yesterday since the temps. have gotten nicer and some of the snow is gone. The horses all enjoyed a nice day yesterday and definitely got some good exercise.

leaving polar vortex

Attention Ladies and Gentlemen,
sometime tomorrow we will begin our departure from the Polar Vortex and will get closer to Normalville. You will be able to unfasten your seatbelts and walk around freely. Thanks for sharing this ride with us, but I hope we don't meet up like this again for a long, long time.

Polar Vortex. Sounds like StarWars to me.

Update on HotShot's 2014 sponsorship. We're getting there, but there's still room for more sponsors!

We now have $1,250.00 donated for our featured rescue horse HotShot -- for his care in 2014. Only need another $1,450.00. And we have the whole month of January to work on it. Thank you to all who have donated for HotShot so far. Joann S. and her Xmas gifts for The Walsh Family and for John & Ericka DeWitt; Gary M, Pam & Carmen and BBS, Val in memory of her mother Helen Woodhouse, Melanie from NJ, and our most recent Steve & Colleen. If you want your full name and $ amount listed, please let us know. Otherwise we mostly mention first names only. (Believe it or not, in past years, we have had other area nonprofits contact some of our sponsors when they see their names & donations listed on our webblog. Not that you can't give to more than one nonprofit, but we just don't want to be the reason you are bothered by another one. So that's why we usually mention first names only. Though we are happy to mention your full name and where you are from and donation amount if you would like us to do so.)
